Protea Wealth Management: Insurance

Protea Wealth Management

When working with a financial professional, you must understand with whom you work with.

Many people mistake insurance agents for financial advisors. They are not the same.

An insurance agent is licensed ONLY to sell insurance products. These could be various life insurance policies or annuities, typically commission products.

A financial advisor is a fiduciary with certifications and licenses to advise on various financial topics and may ALSO hold a license to sell insurance as part of their services.

In addition to being a financial advisor, I also hold insurance licenses for Variable Life and Variable Annuity products and Life Insurance.

I mention the distinction between the two professionals as I frequently see the need to clarify and misuse the above terms.
